To Kiyiv ... and back. A story from the Ukraine war
Also, possibly the only podcast ever to mention tanks and dildos
It’s hard to grasp the reality of war, via the news. You follow events never knowing what’s going on behind the scenes. The way that ordinary lives are being led is too tangential to stories of atrocities and death - the terrible stuff that sells the news to us inevitably misses that essential quality. The banal and sometimes even funny things that go on in the worst of times.
That’s what this story is about. Many of those qualities of life amid war are revealed in this conversation with Mark Patchett.
Mark is a digital marketing entrepreneur and founder of Growth Shop, an international business which still maintains a scaled-down presence in Ukraine, where he previously had a large team.
He describes a remarkable journey there with his Ukrainian partner, this summer, to find a much quieter city than the one he chose as home.
